RENTAL GUIDELINES
Rules differ for group reservations.
- Renters must be 18 years of age or older and provide a valid, physical government-issued photo ID to be held as rental collateral until rental product is returned.
- All Rentals: One-hour minimum. After first hour all rental hours are prorated in 15-minute increments.
- We do not offer refunds for weather – Rain Checks Only.
- Damaged Goods – You will be charged for product damaged during your rental.
SAFETY GUIDELINES:
- Helmets and other safety equipment offered FREE. We recommend it!
- All riders under 14 must wear a helmet – New York State Law.
- Surrey and Deuce Coupe drivers must be 16 years of age or older.
- Ride safely, use common sense, watch for others and obey all traffic laws.
- Please be certain you receive and understand riding instructions prior to renting.
WATERCRAFT:
- All users must be 18 years of age or older, or 16 with a parent/guardian over 21.
- You must know how to swim to rent water products.
- Everyone must wear a correctly fitted PFD/Life jacket at all times.
- Exiting/entering your boat from any place other than the designated launch area is NOT permitted and will result in termination of your rental with no refund.
- Gerritsen Creek, which leads to Jamaica Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, has many strong current, wind and tidal conditions; kayaking and paddleboarding here should be taken very seriously. Be certain you understand all the environmental forces before you take to the water and plan to use the forces to your advantage on your return trip.
- Unless you have personal watercraft certifications, constantly check to assure you are staying close to shore.
- Please be mindful of fishermen and their lines in the water.
- No swimming or jumping from any watercraft.
- ALCOHOLIC beverages are NOT permitted at any time before or during watercraft rentals.
- Please be certain you receive and understand user instructions prior to renting.
- Each watercraft has a maximum capacity. Your rental clerk will assist in fitting your party to the correct watercraft(s).
- Renters will be charged any/all costs for rescue. If you cannot bring the watercraft back on your own, you will be charged a towing fee of $50 (plus tax).
- To get to and from the water, we offer a 20 minute grace period..
BOAT AGE LIMITS:
- Single Kayak & SUPs: All users must be 18 years of age or older, or 16 with a parent or guardian over 21.
- Double Kayak: Passenger may be 12 years of age or older when accompanied in the same kayak by a parent or guardian over 21.
Review Release of Liability Agreement for full rental terms & conditions. All equipment rented is subject to the rules of operation. Failure to obey is subject to immediate termination of rental without refund.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
SURREY CYCLES:
- The brake lever is located next to the steering wheel. Please use the brake at all times when going downhill. Practice and become comfortable with the brakes before beginning your ride.
- For all people in the pedaling position – when backing up please put your feet on the ground away from the pedals & cranks, not on frame or Chainguard and push backwards. The pedals rotate backwards and can hit you in the shin or pinch your foot.
- Maximum 3 riders per seat, no sidesaddle, no standing & no hanging on the outside.
- Obey all rules of the road, maintain safe speeds and watch for cars & pedestrians.
- Helmets are recommended for everyone, and helmets are required all riders under 14 years old – New York State Law.
- Secure your wallet, cell phone, and anything else that may be in you back pocket.
IF NIGHT RIDE
- Also, please keep the noise level down, so as not to disturb the surrounding community.
SPECIALTY CYCLES (DEUCE COUPES, CHOPPERS, QUAD SPORTS):
- These have pedal brakes which work by backpedaling. Please use the brakes at all times when going downhill. Practice and become comfortable with the brakes before beginning your ride.
- No extra riders, no sidesaddle, no standing & no hanging on the outside.
- Obey all rules of the road, maintain safe speeds and watch for cars & pedestrians.
- Helmets are recommended for everyone, and helmets are required all riders under 14 years old – New York State Law.
- Secure your wallet, cell phone, and anything else that may be in your back pocket.
MULTISPEED BIKES (if applicable at location):
- Shifting is simple – lower numbered gears make pedaling easier for uphill or headwinds, higher numbers give you more speed.
- The front brake is on the left. The rear brake is on your right. Be cautious using the front brake, when turning on sand, gravel, water or other debris is on the road surface; your front wheel could slide out.
- Practice and become comfortable with the brakes before beginning your ride.
- When on roads, ride single file do not ride two or three abreast. Ride with the traffic (on the right side of the road).
- Obey all traffic laws, signs and signals.
- Ride carefully where cars are parked; people don’t look for cyclists when they pull out or open their car doors.
- Helmets are recommended for everyone, and helmets are required all riders under 14 years old – New York State Law.
CRUISERS/SINGLE-SPEED BIKES (if applicable at location):
- These have pedal brakes which work by backpedaling. Please use the brake at all times when going downhill. Practice and become comfortable with the brakes before beginning your ride.
- Be cautious when turning on sand, gravel, or debris is on the road surface; your front wheel could slide out.
- When on roads, ride single file do not ride two or three abreast. Ride with the traffic (on the right side of the road).

- Ride carefully where cars are parked; people don’t look for cyclists when they pull out or open their car doors.

KAYAKS & STANDUP PADDLEBOARDS:
- South of Avenue U, you are in a Natural Area, designated for wildlife preservation and protection. Be respectful to ALL wildlife. Mistreatment of the natural area or wildlife will result in loss of rental without refund.
- Review Declaration of Fitness. First time users who are not going out with others and intend to rent for more than 1 hour may not rent.
- All boaters must wear fully buckled lifejackets at all times.
- Never stand up in the kayak.
- Do not drag the kayak or paddleboard on the ground, doing so will cause damage and you will be responsible for repairs.
- Other than your initial launch and return, do not beach the boat in any other areas. The launching point is the only place you are allowed to get off the watercraft. Walking on Mau Mau Island is not permitted.
- No swimming or jumping from any watercraft. Horseplay will not be tolerated.
- We offer dry bags for your personal items.
- When the wind is blowing, we recommend paddlers initially travel into the wind and stay close to the shore to assure you are not pulled out and stranded.
- If you need assistance, or see someone who needs assistance, please call the number printed on the decal inside the boat or dial 911.
- If you plan to return late or are unable to come back to shore, call the 1st number on the orange sticker on the boat. If you are unable to return to this location, you will be charged a $50 tow in fee.
- If you are not back 1 hour after your expected return and we cannot get a hold of you, we will consider you lost and call the US Coast Guard Search & Rescue Command Center.
